Death’s Intern: What to do When Death Knocks at your Door
The book revolves around an army vet Isis Black, who lives in a small town in Texas. The story starts with Isis accidentally knocking a man off a crowded fire escape. Soon after the incident Death knocks at Isis’s apartment door. Death informs Isis that the man she killed was Death’s Intern, and now Death needs Isis to take the spot as an Intern for the North American territory.
The book tells the tale of death’s intern, whose job is to steal someone’s soul that Death needs to transport to the afterlife and to find who was responsible in sabotaging Death’s efforts. Death offers the job to Isis and gives her three days to decide.
Meanwhile, Death’s friend Bob goes missing. Isis falls into confusion because on one hand her life is lonely and on the other, she’s afraid of working with Death.
The book speaks about saving humanity, representing Bob as the homeless and the needy, Death as the ultimate, and Isis as an intern to help Death move Bob to their afterlife. Overall, Death’s intern is a compelling story about courage and fights to save humanity. It’s about making the planet a better place and mentions the struggles to end the suffering of the needy. The book teaches us about dreaming big, to change reality. As DC Gomez states, “Dreams can be powerful tools. At times, those who have passed have used them to communicate with the living. Your subconscious is more open to the supernatural during sleep”. Dreams do arise from subconsciousness. It’s the layer of mind beneath the thought [patterns of our awake state. But the background or the deep thoughts take shape in sleep and often represents a deeper version of ourselves and our thoughts. The characters in the book are fictional yet they have real meaning in our lives. DC Gomez has done a great job in writing this fantasy book with emotions rooted in reality.
